Adobe Fireworks formerly Macromedia Fireworks is a discontinued bitmap and vector graphics editor , which Adobe acquired in Fireworks was made for web designers for rapidly creating website prototypes and application interfaces.
Its features included slices, which are segments of an image that are converted to HTML elements, and the ability to add hotspots, which are segments of an image that are converted to hyperlinks. It was available as either a standalone product or bundled with Adobe Creative Suite.
Older versions were bundled with Macromedia Studio. Adobe discontinued Fireworks in , citing the increasing overlap in functionality with its other products such as Adobe Photoshop , Adobe Illustrator , and Adobe Edge. Fireworks' user interface is consistent with the rest of Adobe Creative Suite, similar to that of Adobe Photoshop. On macOS , it is possible to display the application in multiple document interface mode or the standard viewing mode where all toolbars float freely on the screen.
All the layers can be accessed from the Layers panel. Layers may be wider or taller than the image itself. However, the final image is produced by hiding those areas that exit the image boundary. Fireworks support guides , horizontal or vertical lines that act like a real-world ruler to help drawing, content placement and image composition. A user may place one or more guides on the image at any time and use it as a visual aid.
For instance a guide is useful when a piece of text must be placed in line with another graphical item. Additionally, the user may enable the snap feature of the Fireworks, which causes objects pieces of image, text or layers drag to the vicinity of a guide to snap to it.
The smart guides however, are not placed by users. They are areas of the image that may interest the user such as the image boundaries, middle of the image or general boundaries of another object. When a user drags an object, Fireworks tries to guess what the user intends to do with the object and draws temporary visual and placement aids. This feature was added with the release of CS4. Reusable elements can be designated as symbols and placed at multiple pages or on the same page.
When the master symbol is edited, Fireworks propagates the change to all instances of that symbol. This feature ensures that rounded rectangles maintain their roundness when transformed depending on where the guides are placed. CS4 has this feature exposed as a tool. With this feature introduced in the CS3 version, its usage was limited to symbols.
Fireworks were created specifically for web production. Fireworks understands the Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator file formats. Previously known as frames , states are used for animation purposes. They are also used for defining behaviors in cases of symbol buttons like Up, Down, Over changing the visual style of buttons on click, release, and hover with the mouse.

Not only were these not linked to the project, but the files themselves seemed unavailable i. While this may all be due to codecs missing and such I am still in back and forth with Adobe Press about what is going on , the fact is we do not want to be spending hours trying to make the files work when we're already spending hours learning the program. Adobe Press offered the usual solution: find the files in the Lessons Asset folder and link them. When it came time to choose another 'Classroom in a Book' book for another software, I made the choice to go with something else because I just do not want to have to work around unusable files.
And, of course, without the necessary files, trying to work through the lessons was a bit hellish. The sequence of the book is good and the lessons are reasonably thorough. The few details that prevent me from giving it a 5-Star rating: 1 The screen shots are very dim and small, so it was sometimes difficult to follow along visually when looking for the right option, menu or button when referencing the picture.
This may not be an issue with the e-book, but in print it was a challenge. Although the book covered how to relink files anyone who's worked in other Adobe applications like Illustrator or InDesign can probably figure it out without much help , there was one lesson where the asset was completely missing and couldn't be linked.
I wasn't able to get much out of that chapter's lesson as a result. I'd say all in all the book is still very good, but it seemed to fall a little short for the reasons I described here. I still recommend it, though. So far I've gotten through chapter nine in the book.
It is well laid out and very extensive so far. The lessons on the CD are very helpful but I'm beginning to want to see the entire movie with the sorcerer. Looks interesting. I only have one complaint but it's not enough to reduce the rating. I'm constantly using a magnifying glass.
My recommendation to Adobe is to include the screenshots on the DVD so a person can pull them up if they need to see more detail. I've never used Premier pro before and find this book explains things very well. I've used other products in the Adobe suite and am pleased that some shortcut keys and icons for tools remain consistent throughout.

For a virtually complete novice such as myself this was incredibly frustrating. It has a lot of information, much of it very useful but very overwhelming if you haven't even got the basics down. I gave up and turned to You Tube instead, learned a lot, understood more through trial and error then returned to the book which I found easier to understand with a bit of prior knowledge and a greater overview in my head.
I would also recommend Cool Stuff in Premiere Pro by Jarle Leirpol search google not Amazon if you are really serious about editing to the best of the software and your ability. Report abuse. I did not agree, but if you can't attend a classroom based course, these books and associated video back up, make a useful substitute. Having used previous editions I have to say that I don't find this edition for CS6 as polished as previous versions. There is a feeling of the text being a bit rushed and not quite as well checked out as it could have been in some places.
For instance the text says to switch back to the project panel, but fails to tell you how. There are a lot of screen shots illustrating the text, but some are too small or too dark to read without a magnifying glass. But over all, following the exercises reveals many hidden features that would not be discovered by experimenting alone. I am finding it a worthwhile investment. This is an excellent book for beginners, with easy to follow lessons both written and on the accompanying DVD.
I was able, as an absolute beginner on PPCS6, to produce a 5 minute video in less than a week, including sorting out some dodgy camera work. It also contains some useful tips on using other programs in the Adobe group.
Highly recommended. The book is clear to an almost beginner like myself, may be red chapter by chapter which follows the recommended procedure, or one can chose an independent chapter. Also one may use the lessons schedule and videos or get the info he needs from the corresponding chapter. Personally I find what I need in the book pages. My only complaint is that the print in the photos is very small and I need glasses or magnifier or lots of light!
